Les Orchidophiles de Montréal

In 1978 the orchids “lovers” of the Montreal region decided  to regroup  themselves  in an association. This was the birth of La Société des Orchidophiles de Montréal. Today, the Society can count on 750 active members from as far away as Toronto, Ottawa, Québec, Sherbrooke, New York and Paris. Among these people, several profiles are outlined. Some specialize in the reproduction of species, others prefer hybrids. Those who persevere, find their pleasure with difficult bloomers. And finally, others look for the most perfumed species.

Now a few words about some collections! While certain members take care of modest collections (about thirty specimens), others would make the envy of several botanical gardens with more than 3000 specimens.

Huge Societies, sometimes hundred-years-old, like they Australian Orchid Society, the Royal Orchid Society, as well as the American Orchid Society support these efforts of culture, by awarding different certificates of merit during the international exhibitions. We hope it will also be the case in Montréal!
Among its activities, La Société des Orchidophiles de Montréal holds monthly meetings where the members are invited to bring their own plants and describe the features of culture, maintenance and the flowering time of their orchids. The Society also receives renowned international speakers, and some come as far as Thailand, England, Hawaii and France! The Society also publishes a monthly newspaper, organizes different kinds of workshops. It also supervises the acquisition of orchids by special transactions throughout the globe. Of course, Orchidexpo is the peak to Les Orchidophiles de Montréal, specifically for the interest it provokes outside our borders.
